- Condition rubber before it gets brittle. Preventive maintenance on rubber is far more effective than attempting to restore already-brittle, cracked rubber. Condition rubber components twice a year as part of routine home maintenance.
- Some sticky old rubber cannot be cleaned — it must be replaced. When natural rubber ages to the point of decomposing into a sticky residue (sometimes called “off-gassing”), it’s past recovery. Replace it — trying to clean decomposing rubber is a messy, futile effort.
